Now entering our third generation, Ufer & Co. Insurance is an independent, family-owned insurance agency that has served the Ann Arbor community since 1947. Today, Ufer & Co. enjoys a reputation for service that began with Bob Ufer’s focus on his customers. The second and third generations, David, Tom, Pam and Kathy, along with all of our dedicated staff, make it our goal to extend to our clients the same personal attention.

Our Team

With our many years of combined experience in the insurance industry, Ufer’s team members provide you with the combination of skill and approachability you need to find the right insurance coverage for you.

David Ufer has served as president of Ufer & Co. over the past 25 years. He has served on councils for Citizens Insurance Company and has been a Patron or Sponsor of numerous area programs in the arts, athletics, scholarship and community development. He is the founder and benefactor of the Suzanne Ruth Springer Award Scholarship for college-bound Ann Arbor high-school students excelling as writers. David is a certified B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga student since 1974, an instructor since 1990, and a current teacher with Ann Arbor’s Yoga Focus. Send an email to David.

Tom Ufer joined the family business in 1977 after graduating from Bowdoin College. He specializes in working with Ufer & Co. clients in the design and implementation of their insurance programs.  Plans include life, health, disability and long-term care insurance available on an individual and group basis from over 25 highly rated and well-known insurance companies. He is active in the Ann Arbor community through his efforts with the Bob Ufer Foundation, which funds scholarships for local high school students. Pam Ufer Wood has specialized in employee benefits since joining the family business in 1989.  Her background as a teacher, following her graduation from the University of Wisconsin, serves her well in her role of educating people about the ever-changing world of group and individual health insurance.  She also works with clients to satisfy their disability, life and long-term care insurance needs. Outside of work Pam enjoys volunteering in the community and hiking and skiing with her family in the western United States.

Kathy Wood joined Ufer & Co. as an employee benefits consultant in 2007. Kathy assesses client needs and solves those needs by recommending the appropriate product, both from a quality and cost perspective. Coverage includes health, disability, life and long-term care insurance available on an individual and group basis. She graduated with bachelor’s degrees in both computer information systems and business administration from Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina. She was previously employed by Wells Fargo & Company at the company’s headquarters in San Francisco as Vice President of the Internet Services Group. Send an email to Kathy.

Stewart Nelson joined Ufer & Co. Insurance Agency in a sales and marketing capacity in 2001. After receiving a B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1969, Stewart enjoyed a 30-year career as a commercial pilot with Northwest Airlines. In 1991 he obtained an MBA from Eastern Michigan University. Stewart concentrates on business insurance as well as life, health, disability, home and auto, and long-term care.

Karen Sass has been with Ufer & Co. since 1994. In 1998 Karen became the office manager and handles the financial side of the business along with working with our commercial insurance clients.

Leah Meunier came to Ufer & Co. in 1995 to assist in building the personal insurance department. In addition, Leah’s objective is to make sure clients’ needs are met and customer satisfaction is a primary priority. Leah has 20 years’ experience in the insurance industry.
